Helping to fund arts education in area schools, Rotary Club of Eugene and Lane Arts Council present The Art Spark Eugene Gala and Auction -April 26th at the newly remodeled Shedd!

We believe that the arts are essential for learning and developing a well-rounded education. Through their experience in the arts, young people get to explore their creativity and develop critical thinking skills that will support them in any future endeavor. Research shows that students’ participation in the arts increases student engagement and graduation rates. In addition, “Students who study the arts seriously are taught to see better, to envision, to persist, to be playful and learn from mistakes, to make critical judgments and justify such judgments,” (Hetland and Winner, 2007).

ArtSpark will support Lane Arts Council’s artist residency program and provide students with high-quality arts experiences. The Rotary Club of Eugene has a vision to provide every elementary school in Eugene with at least one artist residency. Professional teaching artists engage young people in memorable arts experiences that align with academic learning objectives.  Schools select an artist from their teaching artist roster, including artists who teach ceramics, murals, tile portraiture, silk painting, puppetry and more. Artists residencies are customized based on the schools’ needs and are generally  2-4 weeks in length.

Thanks! to all these great sponsors who supported Art Spark Eugene in 2017. This list will be taken down soon as the names of the sponsors for the 2018 Art Spark Eugene Gala and Auction become available. Check back for this growing list as great new sponsore step up to support arts education in our public schools. 2017 saw the list of schools swell to 10. That’s half of the schools in district 4J. Goal is ALL the schools in 2018 and from now on. And to make the gala and auction the art event of the year.

The Arts Education Program is an on-going service to our schools and our kids. Through this program, 574 kids initially received art training lwith the Rotary Club of Eugene’s support. With the 2017 Gala, ArtSpark Eugene raised enough to sponsor 10 schools and thousands of kids receiving arts education. The goal for 2018 is to provide an arts education to every one of the kids that attend 4J schools. If you wish to make an electronic donation to this noble effort, click donate and indicate the funds will be going to Artists in Residence. if you want to send a check kindly use the address and information under the donate bar. Any amount is appropriate. Thank you for your support. Watch the movie at the top to see how much the kids appreciate it.

If you want to send a check of support for the Arts Education Program, mail and make checks payable to Rotary Club of Eugene Art Spark. 501c receipt will be sent to your indicated return address.
